A quote that I often think of is, “When we are children we seldom think of the future. This innocence leaves us free to enjoy ourselves as few adults can. The day we fret about the future is the day we leave our childhood behind.”
― Patrick Rothfuss
At one point, I was working on a poetry book for children because I have five children of my own, and I found myself reflecting on their innocence. Watching the way they see the world with pure hearts, unfiltered joy, and a belief that anything is possible, reminded me of a version of myself I once knew. It made me pause and ask, when did life teach us to let that go? In those quiet moments, I realized I wasn’t just writing for them, I was writing to reconnect with the innocence I had lost along the way, which in turn caused me to write this poem amongst many others…
Adventurous Angels
I am a child full of adventure
It flutters in my hands
Joy, persistence, no resistance
Is all I understand.
Each day that the Lord opens my eyes
Is an everlasting quest of wonder and surprise.
Curiosity overtakes me,
And all fear subsides,
My life has no limits
Infinite like the skies.
I’m adventurous,
Life was meant for this,
I’m an angel in disguise,
Of the God I serve,
And I deserve,
To explore…
Soar…
Rise.
Life’s a wondrous quest,
What expedition awaits next?
My fascination with exploration
Sends my tiny mind into unrest.
Our playful minds are such a sight
Makes your heart grin with delight.
Bubble gum clouds and lollipop suns
Rainbow daffodils so bright.
Mountain hearts and pots of gold
Is my world and Lord behold
The world sits at my tiny toes
Adventurous Angels, modest souls.
